In many ways, quitting an addiction is like a toxic break up. To be fair, recovery means giving up something that you believe you like, enjoy, or otherwise benefit from — and that’s not easy! It’s an emotional struggle and a sacrifice that may produce feelings of grief, or a fear of moving on.
Sometimes we must move on from things we ‘love,’ for our own growth and happiness, and it’s okay to grieve while choosing to move forward. It’s a part of life.
As you work through your feelings of grief and fear, it’s okay to practice acceptance and honesty about what you are letting go, while prioritizing the benefits of recovery.
It’s a hard decision, but remember, this is for a positive purpose, and it will unquestionably be worth it in the long run!
